Our Rollei F:X Pro Center GND 8 (3 stops/0.9) is a so-called graduated neutral density filter, which has a gradient tint. With graduated filters, the coating usually tapers off towards one particular side, but this is not the case with the Center GND. The word 'Center' means that the intensity of the tint (coating) decreases from the center of the filter in both directions towards the outer edges and does not end with a hard cut in the middle, as is the case with, for example, the Hard GND.

Graduated neutral density filters (GNDs) are used for subjects where the brightness conditions have a certain gradient and therefore require different exposures. The classic application for the Center GND is a sunrise or sunset, where the sun is visible in the center of the image and the brightness decreases in all directions. The Center GND ideally compensates for this scenario because it only darkens the brightest part of the image – the areas above and below the horizon line are not affected. In this way, magical image compositions become possible.

Our Center GND 8 is available in the size 100 x 100 millimeters (100mm rectangular filter system). It has a density of 0.9 and 3 stops in the darkened central area. One stop means that the amount of light falling on the sensor is reduced by one f-stop.

Thanks to a special manufacturing process, it is legendarily resistant and at the same time guarantees extremely high light transmission and color neutrality. Our anti-scratch layer gives the filter glass its final hardness against mechanical influences and ensures that dirt from grease, water, or mud can also be removed quickly and effortlessly.

But our filters are not only scratch-resistant – they are also temperature-resistant. We have tested this under the highest quality standards in scorching heat and biting cold. In short: they are the best filters we have ever built.
